About Us

We are coming from different background but we share same experience--we all went through the painful process of dealing with off-campus housing and we share the same determination--to make things easier for university students.

Our computer science background enables us to build the website from scratch. We also have business, psychology and physics backgrounds that provide us with a variety of tool kits.

Business Model

Our business model is a subscription model where we collaborate with universities and build customized website for them. We will charge each university using OffCampus $10,000 per year of service. And we think we can get 2, 3, 5 universities on board in the next 3 years.

Cost per university including the cost to host website for each university which is about $10000 and the incentive required to be provided to the universities’ students to post homes on the site, which is $5000.

Based on those assumptions, it would yield a net profit of $7,480.00 after 1 year, $35,640.00 after 2 years, and $77,680.00 after our first 3 years in business.

Hypothesis & MVPs

Our leap of faith hypothesis is that users will benefit and pay for our service and that our application is legally viable. Other hypothesis including that our app is appealing to international students, demand for our service is enough to start a sustainable business and our application could offer benefits that our competitors cannot.

Client Research

The Assistant Director of Graduate Student Affairs of Brandeis reached out to us. As our first client, he will provide funding of $10,000 per year for our service.

We conducted 5 interviews with him to understand his needs and discuss about our product. In his words, our solution is “everything [he] ever dreamed of”.

Legal Research

We explored the legal ramifications of our application. Specifically: What were we legally accountable for? Do we need a realtor’s license? What issues might arise with subletting?

We reached out to lawyer alumni networks on Facebook and legal organizations. By now, we haven't got much responses.

User Evaluations

We conducted 3 surveys, 3 focus groups, 11 user tests, subreddits, and 10 student interviews all focused on assessing students’ housing experiences, and receiving feedback on our application. Together, we reached 244 students.

80% of respondents believed our application would solve their housing problems. Students are willing to pay from $0 up to $600

University Housing Made Easy

OffCampus

Students struggle for months trying to find off-campus homes and they are far too often trapped in bad living conditions. What's worse, they lose thousands of dollars when they are unable to find a subletter for their time away.

OffCampus solves all of these problems. We will have the most widespread database of homes and reviews available to university students, and make the process of finding the perfect home incredibly easy.  We even enable them to post their home for sublet so that they can advertise the location to their entire university.

In working with universities on a one-on-one basis, we create what they need for the students and community.
